Welcome to the first, of what I hope will be many, entertaining and informative blog posts for www.steveloates.com.
Although it may be obvious from the URL – my name is Steve Loates 🙂 And I am an Entrepreneur.
So, what is an entrepreneur? According to Google an entrepreneur is “a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.” That’a not a bad general definition, but I don’t think it catches the true essence. I much prefer this one.
I believe anything is possible
I see opportunity where others see impossibility
I take risks. I am focused.
I know that nothing is unrealistic
I take flying leaps into the unknown
I contribute to something bigger than myself
I create. I learn. I grow. I do.
I believe it is never too late to start living a dream
I am an entrepreneur.
You are probably thinking – Great! Another blog post about being an entrepreneur – because there certainly aren’t very many of those on the Internet right now, are there? 🙂
Since you are already here, I hope that you will read on to see how I’m hoping to build something a little different with this blog as compared to the thousands of other blogs that you could spend your time reading.
A blog is only as good as it’s writers. It is the writers and the knowledge that they are sharing that determines whether the value of your time is worth spending reading what someone else has written. In my experience, too many blogs for entrepreneurs are written by people who are theorists. They tell you what are the good, bad and ugly things about starting your business, by relaying the experiences of others.
I’m going to do something a little bit different here. I’m going to relay experiences of Entrepreneurship that I’ve lived and bring in guest authors who have done the same.
Over the past 30 years I have started, or helped to build, a number of different small businesses in retail, ecommerce, internet marketing, website design, bookkeeping and accounting. Today, I spend much of my time consulting, writing and teaching about Internet Marketing and Social Media – specifically about how each can best be utilized by small business.
During my business career I have learned many lessons, enjoyed some great highs, experienced some not so good lows and made more than my share of mistakes. In fact, I may have made just about every mistake you can make and still be in business J And I wouldn’t change a thing.
Winston Churchill probably said it best, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” And if there is one character trait that is mandatory as an entrepreneur it is enthusiasm because we will all experience failure at some point.
I promise that I will always try to make the content you find here worthy of the time you invest to read it.
Your feedback and comments are always welcome. Let me know how you would define an entrepreneur.
And, if you like what you find here please share it.
Let the new journey begin!
